Behavior Change Communications Specialist

Description:

Provides management and technical support for district level BCC activities in one of the four project provinces to a five-year, USAID-funded, multi-million-dollar Malaria program in Mozambique.

Job Summary / Responsibilities:

  • Oversee programmatic and technical aspects related to SBCC activities ensuring SBCC efforts are evidence-based, community-driven and in line with provisions of the award.
  • Coordinate with PMI, the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of systematic and consistent technical assistance to the Ministry of Health, at all levels, and to other PMI implementing partners.
  • Coordinate efforts with other stakeholders to ensure that resources are efficiently used and to minimize duplication of efforts.
  • Collaborates with in-country technical team, provincial BCC Coordinators, partner managers and headquarters technical staff to ensure the project is designed and implemented according to program frameworks and standards
  • Leads and contributes to the planning, design, and implementation of SBCC activities at community and institutional levels.
  • Develops and tests materials, working with and providing direction to creative agencies.
  • Oversees and provides technical support toward the process of documentation of best practices and develops and distributes case studies and project briefs to highlight SBCC activities.
  • Drives and provides assistance toward the development of project deliverables, work plans, and reports.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or its international equivalent in International Communication, Social and Behavior Change Communication; Social Marketing; Public Health, Health Communication; Health Promotion; or Social Sciences.
  • 3+ years relevant experience in designing and managing health communication campaigns and activities; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of malaria preferred.
  • Experience working in a USAID or other donor-funded project. A solid understanding and appreciation of USAID and USAID project processes, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong intercultural supervisory and team building skills and experience.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative to manage high volume work flow.
  • Relevant computer software skills (including, at a minimum, the standard applications in MS Office).
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
