FHI 360 is seeking applications for a Social Norms and Youth Engagement Technical Advisor for an anticipated DFID-funded violence against women and girls (VAWG) opportunity in Ghana. The Preventing Violence Against Adolescent Girls (PVAAG) program aims to contribute to the long-term reduction in the prevalence of VAWG as well as to strengthen the evidence base on what works to mitigate violence against adolescent girls (aged 10-19) in Ghana. The Social Norms and Youth Engagement Technical Advisor will work in concert with key stakeholders to tackle harmful social norms through the application of social and behavior change communication approaches to shift the attitudes and beliefs that justify and perpetuate VAWG in Ghana. She/he will report directly to the Team Leader and will advise the Implementation Team, providing technical direction for project implementation and ensuring the project meets stated goals, expected results, and reporting requirements.
Job Summary / Responsibilities:
- Provides technical assistance in the development and implementation of rigorous social and behavior change communication strategies and campaigns to tackle harmful social norms and combating violence against girls from formative research through design, media and materials development and production, and evaluation.
- Provides technical leadership and design expertise in media production and materials development based on the rigorous application of Social and Behavior Change Communication principles and current best practices.
- Responds to the specified deliverables and goals of the project to ensure completion of tasks and materials development in a timely manner and in full support and compliance with branding and marking rules, guidelines and regulations.
- Completes detailed strategy write-ups, work plans, creative briefs and success stories; Works closely with the M&E team and other project staff to produce high quality quarterly and annual reports.
- Collaborate with Ghana’s Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to design and implement social norms campaigns.
Qualifications:
- 8-10 years of practical experience in implementing and managing social and behavior change communication and gender related programs.
- Minimum of a university degree in Gender Studies, Communication, International Development, Global Health, or a related field is required; Advanced degree in relevant field and Ghana experience is strongly preferred.
- A thorough understanding of the drivers of VAWG, in Ghana and/or the region, will be an asset.
- Knowledge of state of the art social and behavior change communication models and strategies and their practical application to gender and violence prevention.
- Experience working with creative design agencies, materials development and production houses, public relations and print production firms is an asset.
- A demonstrated ability to work effectively with government representatives, for-profit private sector entities, local community organizations, donors and other stakeholders, particularly at the sub-national level.
- Field experience in developing and implementing SBCC projects and programs in Ghana and/or the region that have demonstrated impact, at scale.
- Field experience in developing and implementing SBCC projects and programs in Ghana and/or the region that have demonstrated impact, at scale.
- Understanding of widely accepted formative research, pretesting, and monitoring and evaluation methodologies for effective SBCC interventions.
- Experience working with creative design agencies, materials development and production houses, public relations and print production firms is an asset.
