Exploration Geologist required for major operating company working on a major offshore project. Be associated with an industry leading exploration Project.
The basic job description for the successful Red Sea Exploration candidate is a geoscientist who is able to interpret and integrate diverse datasets to produce exploration prospects and new play concepts in pre-salt basins such as the Red Sea. Targets are pre-salt traps in the syn-rift Miocene as well as pre-rift, Pre-Miocene reservoirs.
Essential skills include hands on seismic interpretation and mapping skills with wide azimuth 3D seismic datasets, using Petrel or similar mapping software. Knowledge of salt tectonics and experience mapping salt geometries is a basic skill set that is needed for successful depth migrations and pre-salt imaging.
Pre-salt mapping skills are enhanced by knowledge of rift basin geometries and experience with extensional tectonics, including the influence of extensional geometries on clastic reservoir distributions. Operational skills that include exploration oversight and input into drilling issues in sub-salt provinces such as the Gulf of Mexico, Brazil or W. Africa would be highly favourable. Optional experience interpreting and using look-ahead techniques such as LWD, look-ahead VSP's and Pore Pressure Prediction would be valuable operational skillsets for this area.
Specialized skills being sought include the integration of non-seismic potential field datasets such as marine magneto-tellurics, controlled source electromagnetics and full tensor gravity gradiometry with wide azimuth 3D seismic data. Basin modelers with experience in 2D and/or 3D seismic reconstructions of areas with mobile halite and knowledge of how thick, mobile layers of salt affect heat flow and petroleum systems modeling and maturity profiles are also needed.
Minimum Requirements:
A Masters degree in geology or geophysics. Eight years of experience as an explorationist, with at least 3 years working in salt provinces is preferable, although less experienced exceptional candidates will be considered.
