The European Commission is looking for experienced professionals in development cooperation and managing aid to non-EU countries (to be based in beneficiary countries), for its Directorates-General for International Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO) and "Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations" (DG NEAR).
DG DEVCO is responsible for designing European international cooperation and development policy and delivering aid throughout the world. DG NEAR is responsible for the management of assistance to countries in the European Neighbourhood Policy zone, as well as for managing the negotiations process and financial assistance to candidate and potential candidate countries to EU membership.Both Commission Departments work closely with other Commission services responsible for thematic policies, as well as with the European External Action Service (EEAS) and Commission services dealing with the Union's external action, so as to facilitate and help ensure a consistent approach.
By working in cooperation and management of aid you will shape strategy and sector policies, conduct dialogue with partners and stakeholders, and identify potential projects that can make a real and lasting difference. Equally important, you could find yourself operationally managing programmes, overseeing tendering and contracting, controlling budgets and engaging governments and civil society.
These are truly hands-on positions. We are looking for people with professional experience in the field of development cooperation projects and programmes.
To apply for this profile, you will need a completed university education of at least 4 years and a minimum of 6 years' professional experience in development cooperation, or a completed university education of 3 years and at least 7 years professional experience in development cooperation.
You will also need to be a citizen of an EU member country with a proven knowledge of at least two EU official languages, of which one is English, French or German.
If recruited you must be willing to accept a first posting in a country where living and security conditions can be difficult. The Delegations are located in countries where French, English, Portuguese and Spanish are most widely spoken and therefore a satisfactory knowledge of these languages constitutes an asset.
The indicative basic monthly salary for this profile (grade AD 7) is € 5 612.
The European institutions have their own social security and pension scheme.
In addition to the basic salary, you may be entitled to various allowances (expatriation, household, dependent child and education).
