Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) Technical Advisor

IMA World Health is seeking a Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) Technical Advisor based in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, to provide technical leadership and support for SGBV activities in order to meet the health, psychosocial and legal needs of survivors of SGBV through sustainable community interventions. S/he will be responsible for technical design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of SGBV programming. S/he will utilize mixed methods to measure the effectiveness of different program outcomes, and detail successes, challenges, and recommendations, documenting SGBV program contributions to measurable societal and individual change, and lessons learned from program activities that may inform current and future programs. This position will evaluate resources and program models to ensure the development of the highest technical quality SGBV activities.
Duties:
  • Supports and supervises SGBV activities, providing technical assistance and oversight.
  • Reviews current SGBV activities and recommends technical design improvements.
  • Updates and improves evaluation strategies to contribute to better SGBV programming.
  • Supports the program evaluation and documentation of achievements.
  • Provides SGBV technical assistance to build partner capacity.
  • Produces information to share lessons learned and for advocacy purposes.
  • Provides technical oversight to all SGBV research related activities.
  • Contributes to development of project reporting (e.g., semi-annual reports).
  • Leads technical design for SGBV activities.
  • Reviews proposals to ensure that technically sound SGBV approaches are integrated.
The position requires a competent and experienced person with the following attributes:
  • Graduate or post-graduate degree in Social Work, Public Health, International Development or related field, with course work in monitoring and evaluation and/or research and learning preferred.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in SGBV programming, experience in assessment and evaluation of psychosocial approaches preferred.
  • Experience in conflict areas, ability to adapt, ability to live and work under pressure in an unstable security environment.
  • Relevant regional experience strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with guidelines and industry standards for SGBV programming.
  • Experience with evidence-based research, including mixed methods evaluations preferred.
  • Knowledge of USAID system indicators, results, and reporting preferred.
  • Fluency in English and French preferred.
  • Additional qualities: ability to multitask, ability to handle pressure well, ability to improvise, flexibility, cultural and environmental sensitivity.
