REGIONAL HEAD OF EMERGENCY (f/m) International Office Region West & Central Africa

Established in 1949, SOS Children's Villages is a dynamic social development organisation working globally to meet the needs and protect the interests and rights of orphaned and vulnerable children.
SOS Children’s Villages international works through member associations in over 133 countries worldwide.
The International Regional Office for West and Central Africa (WCAF) directly supports National Associations (MAs) in 18 of these countries and is currently seeking a
REGIONAL HEAD OF EMERGENCY (f/m) International Office Region West & Central Africa
Location/ Dakar-Senegal
Mission of the position:
The regional Head of Emergency leads the Emergency Department in the Region in order to support the National Associations (NA) to be prepared and to respond to crisis and natural disasters. He / she is the central interface for all emergency related issues in the region. The position involves the monitoring, evaluation, communication and leadership of emergency programmes in the region. This involves providing expert advice to key stakeholders in National Associations and for the SOS Children’s Villages federation and Emergency Team leadership across the region.
Key performance areas and main responsibilities:
  • Defines the strategy of Emergency Response for the region Leads and Manages the IOR WCAF Emergency Response team
  • Responsible for the management and monitoring of the IOR WCAF Emergency budgets
  • Monitors together with National Associations humanitarian crises in the region feeding into the global alert system
  • Coordinates training (in and out-house) and capacity building
  • Initiates, together with the Global Emergency Team the first stages of an Emergency Response through coordination with vested parties at national / regional level
  • Develops partnership and networking with other humanitarian actors (UN agencies, INGOs…) and networks and lays the ground for local partnerships
  • Feeds info and collate lessons learnt and best practices in security in order to set SOP (standard operational procedures) for each emergency setting
  • Provides direction in medium-high-level or complex / cross-country emergency operations, where NA capacity is limited and General Secretariat (GSC) support is needed (case-based)
  • Active member of the Regional Management Team in providing inputs and advice
Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in social sciences, development, or any related field
  • Several years of Emergency work experience in a leadership position in an international setting
  • Ability to build strong relationships/networks and to work and cooperate effectively and in a spirit of partnership with hierarchy, peers, partners, stakeholders, and others who are not in direct line management
  • Matrix management skills and knowledge of collaboration tools
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Experience in change management processes
  • Fluent/Very good verbal and written English and French
