The Women’s Bakery (TWB) is a business model committed to creating economic opportunities for women by training them to build, operate, manage, and sustain their own bakeries which sell affordable, locally sourced, highly nutritious breads. These bakeries become an opportunity-generating mechanism for an entire community, meeting local demand with local supply. These independent bakery businesses are supported through TWB’s ongoing training and long-term development. Viewing poverty as the antithesis of choice, TWB creates choice through imparting irrevocable business and life skills to women globally. Rather than build bakeries as an act of charity, TWB is focused on utilizing business, and comprehensive business training, as a tool for social change. Position Overview
The Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator will be based in Kigali, Rwanda and will coordinate the monitoring and evaluation programs for The Women’s Bakery. Using existing frameworks for data collection including baseline surveys, pre- and post-tests, follow-up surveys, bakery level metrics, and focus groups, the Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining, enhancing, collecting, and analyzing our impact data. Accurately and concisely communicating The Women’s Bakery impact on women, families, and communities will enhance our ability to train more women, improve income, and provide access to nutritious foods in Rwanda and beyond. The Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator may also be involved in other exciting work such as program management, trainings, and bakery operational systems.
Responsibilities
Monitoring and evaluation
- Support regular data collection procedures such as quality checking, analyzing, and reporting of field data
- Conduct research on benchmarking and reporting processes of other organizations
- Analyze current monitoring and evaluation data
- Hold focus group discussions
- Support data collection, entry, and statistical analysis
- Work closely with TWB team members to develop and create marketing material with reference to impact data
Impact communications and training
- Design and collect qualitative data for baker/bakery profiles and impact analysis
- Assist in creating weekly reports for bakery performance
- Provide support to staff with tracking and reporting data on special projects
- Run any reports requested by the directors or direct supervisor
- Assist in streamlining bakery operations including finance, marketing, sales, and staff management
- Coordinate training groups and other programs
- Participate in training (e.g. guest lessons)
- Work closely with identified bakery employee/s to train in the eventual management and leadership of their bakery
- Participate in other TWB Rwanda operations and programming as outlined by supervisor
Desired Skills and Experience

- Two years of work experience in the field of research, data collection, and/or monitoring and evaluation*
- Proven administrative and organizational skills*
- Strong background in statistical analysis and/or economic impact analysis*
- Experience presenting empirical data in accessible ways to non-specialists*
- Interest in international development and monitoring and evaluation strategies*
- Ability to thrive in environments with uncertainty and ambiguity*
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills*
- Fluent in English and Kinyarwanda*
- Experience using statistical analysis programming preferred
- Knowledge of French preferred
- A team player who enjoys highly collaborative work environments
- A proven ability to take initiative and work independently
- Experience with, or training in, survey research methods
Fellowship Logistics
During the fellowship year, all fellows are provided with:
- A living stipend of $650/month
- Housing and utilities
- Health insurance
- A professional development grant of $600
- An award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year
- Travel costs covered to and from placement site, training and retreats
*Note: The living stipend and the completion award may be paid out in USD or local currency, as determined by the placement organization.
Living and Working in Rwanda: Fellows are provided with basic housing and a utilities stipend during the fellowship year. GHC coordinates housing for fellows in shared apartments or houses that meet GHC's safety standards. Fellows at The Women’s Bakery will be housed in Kigali, an urban city and capital of Rwanda. National fellows have the option to remain in their own housing and receive a supplemental housing stipend.
