Projects Manager North Africa

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity, which uses media and communications to help reduce poverty and support people to understand their rights. We do this through partnering with civil society, media and others to produce creative programmes and other outputs which inform and engage audiences on key governance, health and resilience development issues. We also strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. As Projects Manager you will be responsible for the development, delivery, management and evaluation of a portfolio of projects in North Africa.

Role Responsibility

This role will need you to plan, coordinate and implement projects activities, ensure projects are legally and financially compliant and in line with BBC editorial standards and follow BBC safety requirements, in relation to risk assessments, travel, production, emergencies and hostile environments. You will contribute to the design, implementation and management of coherent training and development programmes, produce narrative and financial reports and prepare monthly forecasts of projects budgets and activity plans. This position will expect you to review trainers/consultants’ reports within agreed timelines and communicate them appropriately to partners. You will also support North Africa Country Director in identifying business development opportunities, assess local development needs, hold discussions with donor and partners, design new projects and write proposals. You’ll ensure visibility of project(s) in North Africa and internationally, which may include ensuring the development of visibility outputs in English, Arabic and French, coupled with line-managing the locally based project team and induct new staff as required

The Ideal Candidate

This position will require you to have senior level experience in either media or international development ideally in countries in North Africa. You will have experience of successful project management, ideally in the media development field, including developing, delivering, monitoring and closing projects. You will be used to coordinating complex projects activities and ideally will have experience implementing training, capacity building programmes with international components. You will have good editorial judgement. This role will expect you to have knowledge and understanding of the varying needs and interests of audiences and beneficiaries in North Africa. You’ll also have previously worked with contracts – ideally with international development donors, have experience of identifying and engaging with potential donors, and of winning new business through proposal writing for different donors. You will have demonstrable experience of producing complex internal and donor reporting, coupled with experience in developing and managing international projects budgets. You’ll have previously developed and lead small teams from different backgrounds both on site and remotely, have a proven track record in forming effective relationships with a range of local and international partners and a willingness to contribute to the ongoing development of BBC Media Action’s strategy for the region. You will be fluent in French and English.

Contract - Fixed term contract ends 31 March 2018.
