The purpose of this position is to assist the Director of the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS) in Geneva to carry out his/her planned activities and goals by providing logistical, administrative and research based support, including in, but not limited to, the areas of advocacy, outreach and fund-raising for CIHRS.
Location: Geneva, Switzerland
Duration of contract: 1 year, with possibility of extension
Specific objectives and tasks:
• Daily monitoring of political, academic and institutional issues and/or human rights situations and drafting of briefing notes in preparation of the Director’s activities;
• Providing research on specific issues or events as requested;
• Drafting speeches, interventions, papers and briefing notes ahead of conferences and meetings in coordination with concerned CIHRS' officers and in close coordination with the Director;
• Editing of Director's notes;
• Drafting of monthly reports on the president’s activities and impact;
• Follow-up and coordination of Director’s internal and external communications (limited to non-confidential communications);
• Collecting and classifying non-confidential files and contacts;
• Managing the financial aspects of the Director’s missions with the relevant CIHRS' officers;
• Arranging Director’s travel and schedule;
• Performing administrative tasks for the Director as requested;
• Traveling with the Director on mission when required to provide real time assistance and information;
• Organization of events and/or meetings as requested by the Director;
• Providing strategic and analytical feed-back on advocacy and organizational strategy when requested;
• Participation in relevant organizational meetings
Requirements:
• Proven ability to perform effective administrative and logistical duties in a timely and efficient manner
• Reputation for reliability and confidentiality
• Excellent research and writing skills
• An advanced university degree in political science or related discipline
• Solid understanding of contemporary MENA regional and international politics, experience in human rights related issues an asset
• Fluent in speaking and writing in Arabic and English, French an asset
• Flexibility to be located in Europe and willingness to travel
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of appropriate decorum and protocol when engaging with high-level officials and VIP individuals
