SEDIMENTOLOGIST

Sedimentologist for major operating company working on unconventional reservoirs. Be associated with an industry leading Unconventional Gas Project.

Minimum Requirements:
The minimum requirements for this position are 10-15 years of experience in clastic sedimentology, unconventional clastic reservoir sedimentology and/or siliceous or carbonate source rock/shale sedimentology.

A bachelor's degree in geology; a master's degree in sedimentology or a related field (adds 1 year of experience); and a Ph.D. in sedimentology or a related field (adds 2 years of experience).

Detailed Requirements:
Extensive hands-on experience working in sedimentological logging of cores, side-wall cores, and cuttings from a wide range of clastic and/or siliceous or carbonate source rock depositional environments. Has worked on multidisciplinary teams.
Capable of integrating multisource data to establish 2D and 3D sequence stratigraphic models based on cores and logs.
Experience working unconventional hydrocarbon plays (tight gas, shale gas, unconventional oil, and liquid rich tight reservoirs) and/or glacial channel plays.
Has extensive knowledge of integrated reservoir quality studies dealing with thin section petrography, SEM, XRD and various chemical datasets.
Image log analysis of sedimentary features would be an advantage.
Geological software skills (Petrel, Techlog, ODM, Geolog, OpenWorks/DSS).
A track record of peer-reviewed publications in sedimentology is an advantage.

Duties:
Conduct detailed sedimentological studies based on core logging, petrography, diagenesis and integration of open hole logs to facilitate unconventional reservoir evaluation, exploration and development in clastic sequences of glacial, fluvial and deep basin systems and/or shale/source rock systems.

Establish detailed sequence stratigraphic and depositional environment models (2D and 3D) for siliceous and/or carbonate source  rock and/or unconventional reservoirs in clastic systems

Integrating all available data (2D/3D seismic, gravity, magnetic, wireline logs, core, specialist geological techniques - SEM, XRD, chemostratigraphy, isotopes, biostratigraphy, etc.) to provide analysis of well data in terms of sedimentary architecture, facies and depositional environment.

Provide integrated reservoir quality evaluation based on conventional techniques and integrate primary and secondary controls into predictive stratigraphic/reservoir zonation frameworks and depositional models.
Work within multidisciplinary project teams to provide timely and fit-for-purpose sedimentological models, advice and recommendations to facilitate operational short term decisions and long term strategies.
Contribute to the development of basin and reservoir exploration models, and 3D static geological models.
Support and mentor co-workers in applying sedimentological principles to wider exploration and development issues.
Develop and promote sedimentological best practices across the unconventional resource team.
Remain abreast of latest industry trends, best practices and technologies in sedimentology.
