The Legal Counsel will be assisting the legal function in Angola to drive GE's strategy to grow in the country while managing risk and executing with integrity. He or she will be responsible (under the supervision of the General Counsel for Angola) for providing legal and compliance assistance to GE businesses, which are active in Angola, Mozambique and Equatorial Guinea, including any GE joint-ventures in such countries. The role will be based in Luanda. | |
The responsibilities of the Senior Counsel, Angola will include: . Providing advice and support on general commercial matters for GE businesses, drafting, negotiating and supporting the implementation of high value contracts, while managing risk and executing with integrity; Working with colleagues to develop and strengthen the culture of integrity and compliance within GE's workforce and operations in Angola, implementing rigorous processes for compliance training, risk assessment and mitigation, reporting and resolution of compliance issues; Advising on local regulatory issues including labour & employment, data privacy, competition, and procurement practices; Working with legal colleagues and business teams to manage outside counsel, interact with government agenceis, develop trainings, best practices, legal templates and processes; Providing leadership to the local legal and compliance team in a matrix structure (exact reporting lines will be determined based on the seniority and experience of the selected candidate). | |
Strong personal integrity and work ethic with the potential to become a leader within the GE legal team. LLB, Juris Doctorate or equivalent from an accredited law school. At least 10 years experience in business law at a premier law firm and/or corporate legal department in Angola. Member in good standing with local Bar. Solid knowledge of law and legal practice in Angola. Experience in the oil & gas and/or infrastructure sector would be an advantage. | |
Transactional experience in contract drafting and negotiations, including sales of capital goods and services; understanding local regulatory, labour and employment law. Understanding of and interest in business and business issues, familiarity with finance and a capacity to understand standard financial metrics. Able to prioritize conflicting demands from multiple business clients in a fast paced environment while paying attention to detail. Proven communication, and interpersonal skills, ability to work well independently and in a team setting. Able to interface effectively with all levels of a complex organization; ability to build excellent working relationships within a matrix environment. Fluency (oral/written) in English and Portuguese. Proven ability to lead a small team would be an dvantage |
