Background and Job Description:
The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office team is made up of three internationals and four national staff plus administration. The office is supporting the Resident Coordinator’s function to lead the coordination work of the UN in the country including the monitoring, resource mobilization, partnerships building, human rights, communications and advocacy for achieving the results stipulated in the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).
The UNDAF is UN’s common programme declaration and implemented by more than 20 UN agencies, funds and programmes. Part of the strategy to reach the UNDAF results are to build, develop and maintain strategic partnerships with development partners. These partners are made up of bi- and multilaterals, private sector, academia and civil society. The partnerships varies from normative, technical to financial.
The coordination and partnership officer will work closely with the RC, UN country team and programme staff to jointly work on achieving meaningful partnerships. The job will require responsiveness, client and results orientations in a dynamic, changing and challenging development environment.
As part of the UNDP JPO programme overall framework, the JPO will benefit from the following training and learning opportunities:
- Participation in a two-week long Programme Policy and Operations Induction Course in New York within the first 3 to 6 months of assignment
- Use of yearly JPO duty-related travel and training allocation (DTTA), as per the online DTTA guide
- Other training and learning opportunities, as presented in the UNDP JPO Orientation Programme
Duties and Responsibilities
- Contribute to partnership development to advance UNs normative and programmatic objectives with a special focus on the roll out and implementation of the new 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in Mozambique
- Map and or update list of partners in Mozambique by technical / substantive priorities
- Support preparations of SDG advocacy event and meetings with external partners
- Explore, maintain and develop substantive partnerships
- Provide support to contribution maintenance to ensure visibility and recognition of partnerships and help ensure provision of timely reporting and information dissemination
- Technically advise and support coordination of Resource Mobilisation to implement the SDGs in Mozambique
- Advise and support joint resource mobilisation efforts and activities
- Assist in the development of innovative funding solutions to promote the SDGs
- Coordinate joint proposal formulations
- Source funding possibilities
- Provide inputs and support to common SDG FOCUSED communication and advocacy
- Actively provide inputs to online media
- Advise and support on join communication and advocacy to promote, advocate and disseminate the work of the UN from the perspective of partnership development and resource mobilisation
- Explore new creative public private partnership to advocate the SDGs and the work of the UN in support of the new agenda.
Required Skills and Experience
Required Education and Work Experience:
- Master’s Degree or equivalent, or higher Advanced Degree, in international development, communications, economics and or related field of expertise
- A minimum of two years of paid working experience in a relevant field
- Working knowledge of English
- Working knowledge in Portuguese an advantage
Other desirable education and work experience:
- Experience in partnership building
- Coordination experience is an asset
- Working in a least developed country is an asset
- Familiarity with the SDGs

- The candidate must not be older than 32 years of age as of 31st December 2016
- The maximum age limit for those who served in the military will be extended accordingly
