Strategic Planning Officer - Volunteer

***PERFORMED REMOTELY***
International Women’s Initiative (IWI) is a non-profit which raises awareness of the threats to the human rights of women across the globe and to promote and assist in the achievement of gender equality. We take our values very seriously and believe that we cannot one day have equality without transparency, collaboration, inclusiveness, integrity, or tenacity.
As an organisation which is run 100% by volunteers, we are looking for a Strategic Planning Officer who can help lead IWI while ensuring we remain true to our mission and goals.
Job Descriptions
The Strategic Planning Officer will work with the Director of Strategy, as well as other members of senior management, to determine where IWI is going and how it will get there. You will be responsible for helping to create and implement IWI’s medium- and long- term goals, while working closely with directors to ensure IWI is meeting goals and milestones.
Responsibilities
Knowledge
The Strategic Planning Officer is responsible for obtaining and evaluating information about industry and market trends, competitive threats and possible organisational opportunities. For example, the Strategic Planning Officer will work in collaboration with the Director of Strategy to chart a trend or recent development within women’s human rights showing what needs to be accomplished and how to make it happen. Your research may show that competitors are already developing such strategies. You must also be aware of potential legislation that may affect any areas of IWI's operations.
Strategy
Setting strategy is a collaborative process conducted between the Director of Strategy, the Strategic Planning Officer and senior management, but will be spearheaded by the strategy team. A strategy might include decisions about entering new markets, developing programmes or streamlining the company’s focus. The Strategic Planning Officer will assist with the discussions and contributes insight derived from your knowledge and analysis of the industry and competitors. You will make recommendations and tests ideas that are put forward by other members of IWI. You must have experience drafting strategy documents and presentations to be made to the board or other key stakeholders in the company.
Planning and Execution
The Strategic Planning Officer will help IWI form strategy for our teams, and will then work with the directors of that team to implement the strategy. Essentially, you will work under the direction of the Director of Strategy to collaborate with colleagues in senior management to identify what each department needs to do to make a strategy work.
Internal Consultancy
The Strategic Planning Officer may be asked to supervise ad hoc research projects or feasibility studies that do not clearly fall within an existing department unit.
Requirements
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, demonstrated leadership abilities, solid management skills and success in developing and leading strategic projects with proven results
  • Outstanding quantitative and qualitative intellectual abilities are essential
  • Candidates must have a thoughtful and practical approach to problem-solving and a genuine passion for women’s human rights, and share IWI’s vision and mission
  • In addition to education and previous experience the position requires strong analytical and planning skills and creative thinking
