Senior Reading Director, READ Liberia


Introduction

Position Summary
AIR is seeking a Senior Reading Director to work on a 5 year, USAID-funded reading program in Liberia. The purpose of the program is to improve early grade reading skills for Liberian students in grades one and two and pilot test emergent literacy skills for Liberian students in public kindergarten schools in six targeted counties.
This position is contingent on funding.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise the implementation of the early grade reading activity and provide technical support and guidance to eight program staff in targeted counties
  • Provide inputs into the development and revision of the early grade reading lessons and materials, and provide input into aligning the reading curriculum with the national curriculum for primary grades
  • Take the lead adjusting assessment instruments, and organizing assessment and data collection workshops for key stakeholders and enumerators
  • Provide technical leadership of the evidence based reading program
  • In collaboration with local stakeholders, assist with the process of field testing to validate instruments, analyze results and adapt instruments
  • Maintain regular communication with the project field staff and COP
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or foreign equivalent in education, public or business administration, other social sciences, or a similar relevant field
  • Six years of experience providing instructional leadership
  • At least four years of experience managing a team and supporting coaches and teachers in early grade reading intervention
  • At least two years of experience working with non-US Education Systems
  • Must be professionally proficient and fluent in written and spoken English
