The position is located in the Activation and Coordination Support Unit (ACSU), Emergency Services Branch (ESB), in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Geneva. The incumbent will report to the Chief of ESB.
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, social science, public administration, international studies, economics, engineering, earth sciences or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in disaster/emergency response management at international level is required. Working experience in regional or international information or crisis centres in particular within the United Nations System is desirable. Experience in using computer based disaster/emergency information systems is an asset. Experience in design and conduct of training courses and simulation exercises related to international disaster/emergency response is an advantage.
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
