The Ethereum Foundation was created in order to serve the Ethereum Project and its vision of a decentralized internet ecosystem based on blockchain technology. The Foundation’s scope and size has expanded considerably, and we are looking to reinvigorate and reforge the Foundation Council through the introduction of a fresh set of members.
The Ethereum foundation is a non-profit organization registered in Switzerland as “Stiftung Ethereum”. The foundation received initial funding in a crowd sale in 2014. The Foundation’s purpose is to
- guide the long-term vision and development of the Ethereum-related protocols and utilities,
- facilitate broad adoption and the growth of an ecosystem, and
- provide supportive activities, including participating in and championing a number of industry collaborations and innovative practices.
The ideal characteristics that we are looking for in potential board candidates include:
- Status as a thought leader and innovator in a field which could be benefited by blockchain and decentralized application technology, outside of the existing “cryptocurrency” space
- Experience and interest in helping with long-term fundraising efforts
- Experience in building and operating a board of directors for a not-for-profit
- Excitement and interest in decentralized applications
- Minimal or no conflicts of interest
- Commitment to high ethical standards and organizational transparency.
The Ethereum Foundation is looking for a diverse set of industry backgrounds as well as national and cultural backgrounds. Board members would be required to, at the minimum, come to Switzerland two-four times per year in order to attend official board meetings, as well as be available for conference calls at regular intervals.
The new board is expected to be finalized and inaugurated by end of June 2015.
