The Legal Counsel will be assisting the legal function in Angola to drive GE's strategy to grow in the country while managing risk and executing with integrity. He or she will be responsible (under the supervision of the General Counsel for Angola) for providing legal and compliance assistance to GE businesses, which are active in Angola, Mozambique and Equatorial Guinea, including any GE joint-ventures in such countries. The role will be based in Luanda.
The responsibilities of the Senior Counsel, Angola will include:
. Providing advice and support on general commercial matters for GE
businesses, drafting, negotiating and supporting the implementation of high
value contracts, while managing risk and executing with integrity;
 Working with colleagues to develop and strengthen the culture of integrity
and compliance within GE's workforce and operations in Angola,
implementing rigorous processes for compliance training, risk assessment
and mitigation, reporting and resolution of compliance issues;
 Advising on local regulatory issues including labour & employment, data
privacy, competition, and procurement practices;
 Working with legal colleagues and business teams to manage outside
counsel, interact with government agenceis, develop trainings, best
practices, legal templates and processes;
 Providing leadership to the local legal and compliance team in a matrix
structure (exact reporting lines will be determined based on the seniority and
experience of the selected candidate).
Strong personal integrity and work ethic with the potential to become a
leader within the GE legal team.
 LLB, Juris Doctorate or equivalent from an accredited law school.
 At least 10 years experience in business law at a premier law firm and/or
corporate legal department in Angola.
 Member in good standing with local Bar.
 Solid knowledge of law and legal practice in Angola.
 Experience in the oil & gas and/or infrastructure sector would be an
advantage.
Transactional experience in contract drafting and negotiations, including
sales of capital goods and services; understanding local regulatory, labour
and employment law.
Understanding of and interest in business and business issues, familiarity
with finance and a capacity to understand standard financial metrics.
 Able to prioritize conflicting demands from multiple business clients in a fast
paced environment while paying attention to detail.
 Proven communication, and interpersonal skills, ability to work well
independently and in a team setting.
 Able to interface effectively with all levels of a complex organization; ability to
build excellent working relationships within a matrix environment.
 Fluency (oral/written) in English and Portuguese.
 Proven ability to lead a small team would be an dvantage

ASSISTANT COMPANY SECRETARY
ROLE:
  • Support the Company Secretary: ensure that WV Zambia Limited Board fulfills its governance function and is facilitated through Board developments and effective processes to meet the WVI Partnership Governance standards and milestones; and ensuring statutory and regulatory compliance;
  • Support the Office of the National Director: facilitate the smooth running of the Office through the timely execution of specific projects aligned with the goals of WV Zambia Limited; and provide general administrative support when necessary;
  • Independent legal advisor: provide internal legal support to the organization including through review and management of agreements and other legal documents; legal support in human resource issues and in risk management.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1.   ASSIST THE COMPANY SECRETARY IN THE GOVERNANCE FUNCTION
  • Assist in scheduling of and preparation for all Board Committee meetings;
  • Provide confidential secretarial functions to the Company Secretary, National Director and Senior Leadership Team, by producing a variety of documents such as correspondence, minutes, agenda and Board reports;
  • Assist with corporate secretarial functions including production and distribution of Board materials, maintenance of Board records, draft Board agenda, resolutions and minutes; update and maintain records, email and directories of all Board members;
  • Attend a variety of senior management and/or Board meetings, Annual General Meetings and take minutes; produce and distribute minutes as appropriate; gather information for inclusion in management or Board reports on request and distribute meeting packages prior to meetings;
  • Maintain copies of all information packs distributed to Board members;
  • Maintain corporate governance guidelines and Board committee charters;
  • Maintain Board and Committee calendars;
  • Assist the Company Secretary in the co-ordination and planning of Annual General Meetings by ensuring locations and meal arrangements are booked and through preparing and distributing meeting agendas and meeting materials;
  • Ensure company records are filed and protected and, where applicable, indexed and kept up-to-date, and accessible.
2.         STATUTORY AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
  • Regularly review and ensure that the organization’s statutory documents are in place and updated; and all statutory changes and updates are communicated to all departmental heads to ensure compliance;
  • Advise on and ensure statutory compliance and completing relevant annual returns for WVZL.
  • Assist in facilitating internal workshops for compliance training.
3.         INDEPENDENT LEGAL ADVISOR
  • Support procurement teams and other departments in the preparation and management of tender documentation and various types of contracts, memoranda of understanding and other legal structures for all projects, programs and relationships with development partners.
  • Coordinate and negotiate legal agreements, as requested, including ensuring approvals are obtained prior to execution;
  • Support departments and teams managing contracts, etc. to ensure compliance with terms;
  • Draft memoranda of understanding as required with the Government of Zambia for World Vision projects;
  • Update the Tendering and Contracting Manual as required;
  • Review and update organization’s legal document templates as necessary;
  • Oversee the maintenance of the contract registration database;
  • Provide general legal advice , including in relation to staff management and relations, upon request;
  • Support the management of the organization’s legal risks;
  • Liaise with WVZL external counsel.
EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE
  1.    REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor of Laws degree and legal practitioner of at least three (3) years post-qualification experience, with knowledge of company secretarial functions and general legal practice;
  • Ability to discharge duties politely, with respect for authority and for cultural sensitivities;
  • Ability to liaise at executive and director level;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, be assertive and analytical;
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Pragmatic and results-oriented;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication proficiency in English;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Open-minded and willing to learn;
  • Unblemished record in conduct and character;
  • Demonstrated leadership ability;
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Must be a committed Christian and able to stand above denominational diversities.
      2.    ADVANTAGEOUS ATTRIBUTES
  • Additional professional qualification as a Chartered company secretary;  
  • Post-graduate qualifications in relevant fields;
  • Hands-on experience in corporate governance, preferably related to non-profit organizations;
  • Legal contract management experience;
  • Experience in and understanding of the development sector;
  • Administrative experience.

Law Reform Officer (Maternity Cover)

Fair Trials International is a dynamic human rights charity which campaigns for the better protection of fair trial rights according to internationally recognised standards of justice. Our vision is a world where every person’s right to a fair trial is respected. Over the past five years, Fair Trials has grown considerably and developed an effective and respected law reform function, influencing law and policy (particularly at the EU level) on fair trial rights and cross-border judicial cooperation. Our law reform activities are informed by consultations with our EU-wide network of criminal justice and human rights networks – the Legal Experts Advisory Panel.
The post of Law Reform Officer is full time on a maternity cover basis (expected duration is January to October 2015). You will be mainly based in Fair Trials’ office in central London (with some overseas travel) and will work with other members of Fair Trials’ team based in both London and Brussels. You will be involved in the full range of Fair Trials’ law reform and networking activities and, in particular, you will be responsible for coordinating our pan-EU research project on the use of pre-trial detention in criminal proceedings.
This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with a track record in law reform to take on a varied and challenging role. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the work of Fair Trials International and in improving protection for the fundamental human right to a fair trial.

Volunteer Legal Advisor, Refugee Legal Aid Project

The Refugee Legal Aid Project (RLAP) provides information, counseling, referral, representation, and advocacy for asylum-seekers and refugees in Egypt through the Refugee Status Determination (RSD) and resettlement processes.
Each year, RLAP offers several unpaid legal internships for qualified candidates who can join us for at least six months. Volunteer terms begin in January and July. The next cohort of VLAs will begin mid-January 2015 and commit to RLAP through July 2015.
VLAs work under the supervision of RLAP's legal staff. They conduct intake and follow-up interviews with clients, apply refugee law and policy to clients' cases, and prepare written submissions for the UNHCR, the IOM, and other national immigration authorities as appropriate.
VLAs receive training, instruction, and guidance from RLAP staff. Working independently and taking initiative are necessary skills for VLAs. Qualified volunteers will:
  • Attend a one-week training session prior to the beginning of their internships
  • Work at least 20 hours a week and for a minimum of six months
  • Have an interest in international law and refugee issues
  • Be flexible and sympathetic to cultural expectations
  • Have strong research skills
  • Work independently and take initiative
  • Write effectively and persuasively
  • Work with maturity and professionalism in stressful situations and with emotionally-difficult subject matter
  • Write and speak English fluently
  • Have their own laptop computers with Microsoft Office
Desired qualifications include:
  • Experience with legal analysis (such as law students or graduate students in a relevant field)
  • Previous experience working with refugees
  • Previous experience living/working in the Middle East and Cairo
  • Social work, psychosocial training, or other experience working with vulnerable groups, particularly survivors of violence, torture, trafficking, or SGBV
  • Communication skills in Arabic, Oromo, Amharic, Tigrinya, or Somali

The UN Office of Staff Legal Assistance (OSLA) was established within the Office of Administration of Justice as of 1 July 2009.
The duration of an ESCWA internship is normally two months on a full time basis - this may be exceptionally extended for a maximum period of six months. It is awarded on the recommendation of the Director of the respective Division.
Interns are not paid and are responsible for all expenses related to the internship.
ESCWA accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during an internship. Therefore, upon awarding an internship, candidates will be required to sign a statement confirming their understanding and acceptance of the conditions of service.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
This internship is located within the Office of Staff Legal Assistance (OSLA) in the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The intern reports directly to the Legal Officer.

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
2. Be computer literate in standard software applications;
3. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
4. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Arabic is also a working language of ESCWA. For the internship advertised, fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.

Chemonics seeks multiple long-term technical specialists for an anticipated multiyear, USAID-funded livestock development program to assist the government of Zimbabwe. The program aims to improve both household and national food security and reduce poverty by increasing agricultural production, productivity, and market linkages; enhancing nutrition and hygiene practices; and strengthening local capacity to implement agricultural development programs. It focuses on two subsectors: beef cattle and dairy cattle. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
We seek technical specialists in the following areas:
  • ​Livestock production
  • Livestock value chain development
  • Local capacity building
  • Improving rural livelihoods
  • Behavioral change communications
  • Water and sanitation, nutrition, and/or maternal and child health
  • Gender analysis in agricultural
  • Grants management
Responsibilities include:
  • ​Provide technical input to project implementation to achieve targets in food security and livestock production goals
  • Ensure that all project assistance is technically sound and appropriate for the local context
  • Write and contribute to reports and other deliverables
  • Liaise with the government of Zimbabwe, stakeholders, and counterparts in the public and private sectors

Qualifications:
