1. Background Information
Established in 1950, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is mandated to lead and coordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. A staff of around 6,650 people in more than 120 countries continues to help 65.3 million people today
Based within the Department for External Relations, the Goodwill Ambassador (GWA) Programme seeks to utilise celebrity and high profile support to leverage the fundraising, communications and advocacy goals of UNHCR.
In consultation with the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA) bureau and reporting (administratively) to the Regional Office and (functionally) to the Head of the GWA Programme, the GWA Relations Officer will prospect and recruit new celebrity support for MENA via their networks, will support the management of individual relationships, will project manage regional celebrity support for specific fundraising, communications and advocacy campaigns including World Refugee Day, #WithRefugees and the Nansen Refugee Award.
2. Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Global Goodwill Ambassador, the Goodwill Ambassador Relations Officer will assist in the following:
· Relationship management: coordinate the day to day activities of existing regional high profile supporters as directed, noting priorities in the region, and in support of 3 key organizational objectives: advocacy, fundraising and awareness raising
· To prospect and recruit new celebrity supporters in MENA for UNHCR in full consultation with the Bureau and Regional office
· To act as journey lead on specified field missions with celebrities, ensuring objectives are delivered
· To provide advice and support to staff acting as focal points to national GWA in MENA
· To project manage MENA celebrity support for #WithRefugees & World Refugee Day
· To project manage MENA artist support for the Nansen Refugee Award 2017
· In consultation with Division for External Relations (DER), MENA Bureau and Regional Office, to deliver celebrity support for specific fundraising and communications campaigns and partnerships, including corporate partnerships, emergency campaigns and digital initiatives
· To monitor and evaluate the impact and ROI of celebrity engagement
Essential Minimum Qualifications and Professional Experience Required
Education
· University degree - BA / BSc
Work Experience
· Minimum 7 years’ experience of:
- Celebrity recruitment and management in a cause related environment within MENA/Gulf region
- Managing celebrity projects with multi-media components including broadcast, print, film, photographic and digital
- Project managing celebrity events
- Working with celebrity agents, publicist and managers within MENA region to reach mutually agreed outcomes
· Experience of international development, including hosting VIPs on field missions

· Required: fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic

The role will be based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
