As part of the one of the biggest broadcasters in the world, BBC Afrique broadcasts on radio and TV to Africa and online on www.bbcafrique.com from London and Dakar, Senegal. The multi-media output is varied with a strong emphasis on regional and international news and current affairs. Tight deadlines and news updates are the norm, and the ability to enjoy and thrive in such a fast-paced environment is a quality we look for in all staff.
We are looking for a Senior Broadcast Journalist (Planning) to be based in Dakar and to work closely with editors in London and Africa to ensure that Francophone African stories are covered in the most innovative, cost-effective and relevant manner.
Role Responsibility
As the Senior Broadcast Journalist (Planning), you will organise coverage for all BBC Africa platforms, with a clear focus on TV output, Focus on Africa TV and BBC Infos. You will organise and deploy the regional reporters and producers to ensure they provide daily news coverage and generate strong exclusive and in-depth stories for use across BBC Africa platforms.
In addition, we need you to maintain a diary of important news events so that we can better plan our deployments and coverage and to look beyond the daily news agenda to commission in-depth, investigative and original coverage across all platforms.
The Ideal Candidate
Recent experience as a senior journalist, preferably including time spent in a planning function, is essential to this role. A full command and up to date knowledge of English and French is required and we need your excellent knowledge and understanding of Francophone African news and current affairs, as well as of global stories. You will have familiarity with digital news and social media (including the market, technologies and content) and how to exploit it to maximum effect. Experience of supervising staff and ability to assist in training and development is also required.
