Deputy Project Director - Anti-poaching

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated financial professional for the following vacancy:
 
Position:Deputy Project Director, Anti-poaching

Background:
 
WCS in collaboration with the Ministry of Forests and Wildlife of the Republic of Cameroon, and the Ministry of the Environment and Fisheries of the Republic of Chad, under the coordination of the Commission of Forests of Central Africa (COMIFAC) has been charged with implementing the project ‘BSB Yamoussa’ thanks to funding from the financial cooperation of the Federal Republic of Germany (KfW). The first phase of the project is planned to last at least four years. For this, WCS is seeking a candidate for the position of Deputy Project Director responsible for anti-poaching, who will be based in the Chad sector of the project.
 
The transboundary protected area complex Binational Sena Oura - Bouba Ndjida (BSB Yamoussa), is made up of the Sena Oura National Park in Chad, Bouba Ndjida National Park in Cameroon, and peripheral areas (hunting zone around Bouba Ndjida NP, transition zone around Sena Oura NP) and covers a total area of 650000 ha.

Summary of Position Function:
 
The Deputy Project Director responsible for anti-poaching reports to the Project Director who he/she will assist in the implementation of project activities. He/she is particularly responsible for the implementation of project activities planned in the Chad sector of the project.
 
In close collaboration with the project management, the conservation services and other actors in the field, he/she will participate in the planning and drafting of anti-poaching strategies and will be responsible for their implementation.
 
Qualification requirements:
  • Deep commitment to conservation
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of proven track record in a similar area in Central Africa
  • Excellent French language skills, both written and verbal, and high level of English preferred
  • Ability to thrive in multicultural living and working environment
  • Willingness to live and work in isolated area
