Chemonics seeks a chief of party for USAID's anticipated five-year education initiative in Senegal to increase children's access to high-quality education and improve reading outcomes for students in primary school. The project will achieve this goal by focusing on early grade reading delivery systems in primary school and daaras and by increasing parent and community engagement in early grade reading instruction. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide technical leadership and management oversight to ensure all activities and partners achieve the initiative's targeted results
- Serve as the project's principal liaison with USAID and other relevant counterparts and implementing partners
- Manage and supervise the work of project personnel and subcontractors
- Ensure an integrated vision among components and actors
- Identify issues and risks related to project implementation in a timely manner, suggesting appropriate program adjustments
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or foreign equivalent in education required; Ph.D. or Ed.D. preferred
- Minimum 10 years of education experience, particularly with early grade reading programs, teacher training and professional development, and/or curriculum and material design for early grade reading
- Experience implementing and managing education projects in developing countries, specifically projects related to basic education, early grade reading, or strengthening education systems
- Experience with reading instruction, teacher education, curriculum development, or material design preferred
- Experience monitoring and evaluating education projects and implementing early grade reading assessments (or similar reading assessments) preferred
- Ability to work in complex, politically charged, unstable environments, working across diverse cultures and managing diverse teams
- Strong leadership ability and experience managing large teams in culturally diverse settings
- Familiarity with Senegal and/or West Africa, specifically in the education sector
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
