Chief of party, South Africa

Chemonics seeks a chief of party for USAID's anticipated Southern Africa Energy project. The chief of party will work with USAID to provide transaction support and capacity building to a range of private power providers in priority countries in Southern Africa. We are looking for people who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Candidates should have expertise in the following areas:
  • Infrastructure project finance and/or structuring of public-private partnership arrangements
  • Business and working environments in key Southern African countries
  • Capacity building and technical assistance for public-private partnerships and related areas for sector regulators, service providers, and policymaking bodies
  • Coordination with donors, financiers, project proponents, host governments, community stakeholders, regulators, and operators
Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in engineering, public policy, business, finance, economics, or a related subject area preferred​
  • Minimum 15 years of experience successfully implementing and managing long-term energy and infrastructure projects
  • Experience in one or more of the following programming areas: 
    • ​Support of regional or national energy planning, markets, and regulations
    • Electricity generation, transmission, and distribution
    • Energy transactions (conventional and renewable)
    • Infrastructure finance
  • Chief of party or team leader experience on large USAID or donor-funded projects
  • Experience in Africa preferred
  • Fluent English required​​
