We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in health information and co-ordinator for the LINK programme, based in London. The LINK programme is working with malaria control programmes and stakeholders in endemic countries to improve the use of data for decision-making. The programme started in October 2014 and, over a 4 year period, is developing and supporting the use of malaria profiles in 14 African countries with a high burden of the disease.
The successful applicant will support the PI, Prof David Schellenberg, in the co-ordination of the project. The main responsibilities of the role include: undertaking a systematic review and critical assessment of current literature on approaches, guidelines, tools and indicators used to assess the quality of malaria surveillance systems; leading the development of a functional approach to the assessment of the quality of surveillance systems using routine data – especially malaria data - in African health systems; plan, develop and lead a set of assessments of surveillance systems in selected countries where the LINK programme is active. The post-holder will also develop approaches to the presentation of the quality of surveillance systems, including those using DHIS-2, to enhance the use of routine data in decision-making by National Malaria Control Programmes. The post will require frequent travel to Sub-Saharan Africa in support of programme activities.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in a relevant subject (e.g. malaria, epidemiology, public health, informatics), experience of undertaking literature reviews, a track record of working with routine health information systems in one or more low/middle income countries. The post holder should also have experience of working with Ministries of Health, and of field work, in one or more countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The post is full time, funded by DFID until 30/09/2018 and is available to start as soon as possible. Salary is on the Academic Pathway Grade 7 (Lecturer grade) at £43,745 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting).
Applications should be made online via our website at jobs.lshtm.ac.uk. Online applications will be accepted by the automated system until 10pm on the closing date. Any queries regarding the application process may be addressed to jobs@lshtm.ac.uk.
The supporting statement section should set out how your qualifications, experience and training meet each of the selection criteria. Please provide one or more paragraphs addressing each criterion. The supporting statement is an essential part of the selection process and thus a failure to provide this information will mean that the application will not be considered. An answer to any of the criteria such as “Please see attached CV” will not be considered acceptable.
Please note that if you are shortlisted and are unable to attend on the interview date it may not be possible to offer you an alternative date.
The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is committed to being an equal opportunities employer.
