Description:
Location: Availability to work in any location in Asia, Africa or the US
FHI 360 is recruiting a scientific leader with tuberculosis (TB) technical expertise and programmatic or research experience to join our team. The scientist will serve in a leadership role in areas of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of TB. A significant proportion of the candidate’s work will be in the context of the USAID’s global technical assistance project, Challenge TB (CTB). S/he will also have an opportunity to provide expertise to other projects within the FHI 360 TB portfolio (programmatic and research) and work on business development efforts and proposal writing.
Job Summary / Responsibilities:
  • The Candidate assumes increasing responsibility for the overall implementation of the CTB project including working with country-based teams developing annual work plans and budgets, implementation, monitoring, and reporting. S/he coordinates and works closely together with the coalition partners of CTB, the National TB programs, USAID missions, the Global Fund, project beneficiaries and other stakeholders to successfully implement the Challenge TB project in countries where FHI 360 leads (Burma, Cambodia, & Mozambique) and contributes (Indonesia). The Candidate works closely with headquarters –based staff in the United States, including the FHI 360 representative to the Challenge TB Coalition’s leadership team in The Hague.
  • The Candidate provides technical assistance in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of childhood and adult TB to programs in the field while building strong linkages between TB diagnosis & treatment and other clinical services. S/he builds relationships and collaborate with FHI 360 teams, USAID Missions, regional field offices, regional partners (public and private), host country governments and NGOs in the design, integration and implementation of TB programs based upon USAID, WHO, and/or country-specific strategies and objectives
  • Expertise in at least one specialty area of TB, such as community-based DOTS, TB-HIV, childhood TB, Programmatic Management of Drug Resistant TB (PMDT), new drug introduction, or knowledge of Private-Public Mix (PPM) is highly desired.
  • The Candidate contributes to development of the TB portfolio at FHI 360 by working on and leading proposals, grants and other business development opportunities as they arise. S/he also may contribute to research efforts within the portfolio including operational research, epidemiologic studies, or clinical trials for new therapeutics, vaccines or devices if desired.
  • International travel is required- 15-25%
Qualifications:
  • Degree requirements: MD Doctorate Degree or its International Equivalent with Masters and / or PhD (medicine, epidemiology)
  • Typically requires 5-8 years of experience with scientific disciplines developing strategies in research studies and scientific projects.
  • Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) or in work-related academic, governmental, or industry setting.
