Chief of party, Malawi

Chemonics seeks a chief of party for an anticipated USAID Health-Social Behaviour Change Communications ​program in Malawi. The program will support the government of Malawi in expanding access to sustainable health services and products, and increase understanding, acceptance, and demand for health services and resources. As USAID/Malawi's health communications flagship program, it will build national capacity to design, implement, and evaluate coordinated, evidence- and theory-based, and innovative communications interventions in health. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in lives around the world. 

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide overall program leadership, management, and technical direction
  • Serve as the program's key liaison with USAID, the government of Malawi, project stakeholders, and counterparts in the public and private sectors
  • Manage and supervise the work of program personnel and subcontractors 
  • Ensure that all assistance is technically sound and appropriate 
  • Collaboratively create and implement a strategic, long-term programmatic vision 
  • Oversee work planning, performance management, and strategic communications
Qualifications: 
  • Advanced degree in public health, health communications, social sciences, or a related field required
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant development experience designing, implementing, and managing USAID or other donor-funded health programs required
  • Success in managing public health communications programs focusing on reproductive health and family planning; malaria; maternal, neonatal, and child health; nutrition; and water, sanitation, and hygiene
  • Experience as chief of party on a donor-funded project in Malawi or southern Africa preferred
  • Experience working closely with multidisciplinary teams in developing countries
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to articulate a strategic vision
  • Knowledge of appropriate technologies   
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation and in knowledge sharing
  • Track record in building capacity of local partners 
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
