NIGERIA - COUNTRY ADMINISTRATOR

by Unknown  |  at  10:12 AM
Nigeria is the country with the largest GDP of the whole African continent and it is currently living strong internal crisis due to several factors. In the coastal area, tensions are still ongoing, sometimes in a very violent way, and are related to environmental associations and to the kidnapping of several technicians who were working for oil extraction. In the south and in the centre of the country tensions are very strong too, and really violent, especially between farmers and breeders. But the two main issues that are really concerning the humanitarian community are the persistence of malnutrition and food insecurity in the Sahel area in the north of the country and the considerable increase in the fresh wave of attacks of the terrorist movement, the Islamic fundamentalist Boko Haram. In all the states of the North and Centre, but especially in the three states of the North East (Yobe, Borno and Adamawa) where the state of emergency has been declared, there are ongoing attacks in schools, churches, shopping centers, markets and any crowded place. The IDPs are fleeing from the most insecure areas and they are about 1,5 million while there are several thousand of refugees in the neighboring countries (Cameroon, Niger and Chad).
Coopi is currently carrying out an humanitarian intervention in 3 Local Governmental Authorities (LGA) of the Yobe state which has the following general objective to provide multi sector assistance to IDPs: NFI, food security (cash voucher, land access, seeds and tools), wash, child protection and nutrition. Do you have experience working on social cohesion, socio-economic recovery or conflict prevention issues? Are you motivated by the challenge of working with a diverse range of stakeholders, from the Mano River Union, to national border authorities and community representatives and are you fluent in French? Then the Danish Refugee Council/Danish Demining Group are looking for you.
Background
Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an independent, non-profit organization (NGO), founded on the basis of humanitarian principles, and human rights based approach, to secure the protection of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), and to promote long term solutions to the problems of forced displacement. DRC has been working in Guinea since 2008 and its interventions are based out of its office in Nzérékoré. DRC is implementing several projects in Guinea which focus on Ebola prevention, socio-economic recovery, conflict prevention and food security.
Danish Demining Group (DDG) is a specialized unit within DRC which implements mine action and armed violence reduction (AVR) programmes. The MRU region faces numerous critical challenges including conflicts related to ethnic tensions, poverty, land and access to natural resources. While borders offer great opportunities in terms of cross-border trade, they also increase security risks among the neighbouring countries. Border authorities in the region have important training needs but typically lack resources and coordination. Additionally, issues related to extortion, corruption and abuse of power continue, which affect economic development in the region.
