Role overview
VSO is currently implementing the Child Friendly Schools Project in various primary schools in Malawi. The projects aims at improving classroom methodology and enhancing the learning environment by developing teacher capacity in child-friendly methods and keeping girls in school through the provision of training. Additionally, the project will incorporate Digital Education Technology (DET) to strengthen teacher professional development and support girl child retention in schools. The project is thus looking for an education specialist who will be able to train and support lectures, teachers and school administrators in child-friendly teaching and learning methodologies, mainstream DET approach into their teaching as well as the overall school activities.

Skills, qualifications and experience required
The ideal applicant would be a person who has at least 5 years experience working in the education sector. They would have teaching and classroom management experience especially in the early grades (first and second year of primary school). Additionally, they would have experience in using different and innovative approaches to improve learning outcomes. Experience in the use of data/research outcomes to make and implement initiatives that would enhance learning. Ability to self manage, set targets and self monitor would also be ideal. They should also have teacher training, capacity building and monitoring and evaluation experience. prior experience in using technology in education would also be a plus.
The applicant would be required to start as soon as possible and would be required to provide their own laptop. Please note that the whole project is for 12 months and the volunteer commitment is 8 to 12 months with possibility of extension to 15 months.
For this job you are working within several districts of Malawi, therefore it is necessary to travel by motorbike.
