DAI seeks a Deputy Chief of Party/Senior Agronomist for an anticipated five year, $33-35 million USAID-funded integrated agricultural productivity and nutrition project for Rwanda. The anticipated project, Sustainable Food, Agriculture and Nutrition Activity (SFAN), is expected to sustainably increase smallholder farmer incomes, improve the nutritional status of Rwandan women and children, and increase the resilience of the agriculture and food system to climate change.
Core Responsibilities:
The Deputy Chief of Party/Senior Agronomist would be based in Kigali, Rwanda and would provide technical leadership to the design and implementation of activities to integrate climate-smart agricultural production in target value chains – including but not limited to maize, beans, fresh fruits/vegetables, and potentially dairy – through strengthening and utilizing the extension system (Twigire Huhinzi), improving access to agricultural inputs, and improving the resilience of farming systems. S/he would serve as the Acting Chief of Party as needed.

Experience Requirements:
Seven (7) years of professional experience in food security and agronomy in managing or implementing development programs;
Solid foundation in a broad range of agriculture subjects preferred, including areas such as agriculture economics, agriculture policy, agribusiness, agronomy, agriculture extension, and market development;
Familiarity with nutrition sensitive and climate smart agriculture concepts highly desirable preferred; experience in designing or managing sustainable agricultural production systems is preferred;
Familiarity with agriculture research integration in project implementation, and experience working to improve private and public extension systems;
Strong verbal and written skills in English are required. Knowledge of French and Kinyarwanda is an asset;
Excellent communication and writing skills; and
Master’s degree in international development, agriculture/agronomy, environment, or related field of study.
