The Opportunity
It's an exciting time at Save the Children as we start the implementation of our new 15-year global strategy - Ambition for Children 2030 - which focuses on achieving three Breakthroughs: no child dies from preventable causes before their fifth birthday, all children learn from a quality basic education, and violence against children is no longer tolerated.
To help us ensure our ambitions for children in Mali we are recruiting for a Director of HR and Admin to join our Senior Management Team and share in overall responsibility for the direction and coordination of our country office, which has a budget of US$23 million and employs approximately 350 staff. Save the Children have been actively working in Mali since 1987, both directly and through partners, in the areas of child protection, child rights governance, education, health, livelihoods, nutrition and WASH, to deliver real results for children.
As our Director of HR and Admin you will be accountable to the Country Director for supporting the development of the organisational culture, promoting accountability and high performance; helping to establish, improve and maintain working relationships with government authorities, donors and partner agencies; and working with the Regional HR Director to develop a best practice HR strategy. You will also be responsible for Facilities Management and the Country Office's communications network and systems.
In order to be successful, you will be/have:
- A substantial level of senior Management experience, in a corporate or NGO environment, with experience in / exposure to developing country contexts
- A proven track record of advising senior managers on a wide range of HR issues and legalities
- The ability to plan and organise a substantial workload that includes complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities, in both development and emergency contexts
- Willingness and ability to dramatically change work practices ad hours, and work with incoming surge teams in the event of emergencies
- A proven ability to coach, mentor and provide developmental guidance
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills in French and English
