The Global Health Group MEI seeks to engage a Post-doctoral Fellow with experience and expertise in in the management of malaria field trials. The candidate must have experience of setting up and running or working on a large clinical or vector control study. The post will involve the day-to-day management of field teams deploying different interventions including focal mass drug administration, screening and treatment of community members, and reactive vector control. The study uses rapid reporting and a spatial decision support system to guide study activities rapidly, therefore an understanding of how to program ODK and or an understanding of basic GIS operation would be useful. Working under the mentorship of UCSF faculty/MEI project leads Drs Michelle Hsiang (based at UT Southwestern) and Roly Gosling (UCSF), the Post-doctoral Fellow will work with a team of MEI staff and Namibian counterparts from the University of Namibia, and with the Namibia-based Program Manager from UCSF. The Fellow will contribute analytical support to key projects, critical thinking to problems as they arise, and take responsibility for activities toward several key project deliverables. The Fellow will contribute actively to dissemination of results through preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international meetings and conferences.
This is a full-time position, based in Katima Mulilo, Zambezi region, Namibia, with possible time in San Francisco, California at the University of California, San Francisco Mission Bay campus once field-based data collection is complete. It is currently fully funded for one year. Katima Mulilo is a town of approximately 35,000 people with good access to services, electricity, water, phone and internet connection, but Zambezi region is generally rural, and the fellow should be prepared to be based in such a setting.
