Global Outreach and Advocacy Coordinator, Anti-Corruption Advocacy for Sustainable Development

Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 100 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
The Global Advocacy and Policy Department of the Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S) is seeking an experienced advocate to help strengthen the TI movement’s capacity to successfully carry out coordinated advocacy on the critical role of anti-corruption in sustainable development. The Coordinator will help develop and support the implementation of action and advocacy strategies to support the open, accountable and participatory implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly goal 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions). Through training, capacity development and strategy support, s/he will help maximise the effectiveness of TI’s work in this area and effectively leverage the TI network’s contribution to key development processes at the global, regional and national level.
Main function: Strengthen the TI movement’s capacity to influence global development policy and practice through effective and impactful coordinated advocacy action, in cooperation with external partners.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead to develop and support coordinated TI advocacy strategies and action on the SDGs and other key development processes at the global, regional and national level, with a specific focus on governance and anti-corruption (SDG Goal 16)
  • Coordinate Chapters’ participation in related global, regional and national advocacy work through the production of training and capacity development materials; the sharing of information, resources and best practice; and facilitation of (regional and/ or cross-regional) Chapter/Individual Member working groups
  • Deliver planned advocacy activities, effectively manage resources and meet agreed schedules (including coordination of project budgets and reports); potential areas of work in 2016 include recommended governance and anti-corruption indicators, data sources and policies to deliver on the SDGs
  • Create related thematic advocacy materials (e.g. contributing to drafting and editing Chapter-generated reports, press releases, speeches, blogs, op-eds and other external communications) and commentaries, interventions, think pieces or policy and working papers as necessary on governance, corruption and development
  • Communicate TI’s position and messaging on the SDGs/ relevant policy processes, governance and corruption for external and internal audiences, with an emphasis on continuing outreach and relationship building with global and regional bodies such as the UN and its regional commissions (e.g. by representing TI in government, private sector, media and civil society events and exchanges)
  • Assess and initiate opportunities for coordinated TI advocacy on the role of anti-corruption in sustainable development, including organising and convening related events, discussions and meetings – globally, regionally and nationally
  • Develop funding applications, implement grants and create or compile reports to funders on the SDGs and advocacy efforts, as well as deliver any other tasks identified by the line manager
Knowledge, experience and skills:
  • Graduate university degree or professional qualification in social science, public policy or administration, journalism, international law, economics, management, or another relevant field
  • At least five years of experience in international advocacy, campaigning, activism and/or journalism
  • Sound knowledge of international development and/or corruption issues (e.g. aid/ development finance, or specific sectors like health, education, land or security)
  • Experience with and/or a good understanding of capacity development concepts and processes
  • Excellent analytical skills, with demonstrated record of strong writing and communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English; working knowledge in French, Spanish or Chinese an asset
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, and ability to multi-task and work under pressure
  • Strong diplomatic and intercultural skills and ability to integrate diverse views and convene different actors
  • Demonstrated interest in the work of TI and the field of anti-corruption
  • Past experience in working with and on corruption and development a strong advantage (e.g. with international institutions and networks, civil society organisations)
