The Falkland Islands Government has a vacancy for an Economist. The post holder’s primary role is to provide economic analysis and advice to inform new policy development and to monitor economic and social trends. The post will be based in the Policy Unit which has a remit to drive forward the Islands’ Economic Development Strategy and to develop new economic and policy initiatives.
Applicants for this post will be educated to first degree level in Economics, or a joint degree in economics with another relevant subject. They should have at least three years successful experience in or working with the public sector involving economics and a high level of analytical skills (both verbal and numeric), with experience in preparation of economic impact studies and cost benefit analysis.
In addition, the successful candidate will have the ability to prioritise tasks, have good time management skills, excellent accuracy and attention to detail. Experience of rural economics/rural economic development would be an advantage, along with knowledge of fishing, agriculture, oil & gas and tourism industries. Experience of economic analysis within the oil industry would be an advantage.

The appointment will be a fixed term one for either one or two years in the first instance. The salary will range between £28,177 and £37,279 per annum. Additional benefits include substantially lower taxes than the UK, eligibility for a 25% gratuity upon satisfactory completion of the contract, a relocation grant and a yearly return flight package to the country of recruitment for successful applicant and qualifying family members.
