Financial Sector Economist

JOB PURPOSE
Provide technical inputs to support the development of financial sector policy and strategies in developing member countries (DMCs) within broad policies and objectives. Contribute actively to the identification, development, processing, implementation and administering of loans and other projects. Ensure economic soundness and consistency with policies and strategies to further development in the financial sector and improve access to financial services, with supervision for critical tasks. Contribute to analyses of the impact of policies, strategies and projects on the beneficiaries, the financial sector, and on the overall social and economic development of DMCs. Work with broad policies and objectives, working directly with clients, with supervision for critical tasks.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
  • Supervisor: Director, SEPF
  • The following staff positions may be supervised by the incumbent:
    • National Staff
    • Administrative Staff
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Master’s degree in Economics, preferably with specialization in the financial sector or other related specialized fields; or University degree in Economics, preferably with specialization in the financial sector or other related specialized fields combined with specialized experience in similar organization/s, may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Work experience
  • At least 8 years’ relevant experience within the finance sector with exposure in full project cycle in a professional capacity.
  • International experience working in several countries. 
Technical knowledge
  • Provide application of expertise within a specific area, or breadth across multiple areas with in-depth knowledge within one area.
  • Able to utilize and share relevant knowledge to benefit the broader ADB community.
People and leadership skills
  • Act as a mentor to the more junior team members, providing guidance on projects or processing of loans/technical assistance.
  • Act as a coach to develop capabilities/potential of more junior colleagues.
  • Able to act as a team leader when required with supervision from the Director or a more senior team leader.
