Logistics Coordinator

People in Need offers a position of
Logistics Coordinator in the Democratic Republic of Congo People in Need (PIN) has been working in South Kivu province, Democratic Republic of Congo since 2009 (for more details see www.peopleinneed.cz). In response to the immediate needs in a post-conflict environment, PIN started with implementation of programs focused on access to primary health care, improved access to and quality of primary education, support to victims of sexual violence and assistance to vulnerable communities in meeting their basic needs through livelihoods and water and sanitation interventions. Currently, PIN´s work is covering both emergency and recovery phase while we seek for more sustainable solutions and make substantial efforts towards lasting development in DRC. PIN is present in South Kivu Province, with main office in Bukavu.
Location: Bukavu, South Kivu with frequent travels (40 – 50% of the time)
Starting date: August 2015
Duration: 12 months
Line Manager: Country Director
Type of Contract: Volunteer
Main responsibilities:
  • Supervision of the local logistics team (logistician, assistant logistician, 1-2 base logisticians, mechanics and drivers)
  • Organization of purchases in line with PIN´s and donor specific procurement guidelines
  • Communication and negotiation with suppliers
  • Follow up of transportation of material and persons (mainly local transport of material) in areas with very difficult access
  • IT support and communication with HQ based IT expert
  • Supervision of warehouses and supply chain (incl. all necessary documentation – stock cards, waybills etc.)
  • PIN assets management and regular inventories
  • Support active communication between field and Head Office in Bukavu
  • Pro-active monitoring of security situation in the areas of PIN´s operations
  • Information collection, reporting and participation in the decision making on security procedures applied in the area
  • Compliance with all security and safety rules and regulations set-up by Country Director
  • Representation of PIN at provincial clusters and other relevant meetings
Main requirements:
  • University Degree in Logistics, Business Administration or other relevant field
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Relevant experience in logistics and/or security management
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and French
  • Ability to work systematically and plan effectively
  • Experience with leading a small team
  • Ability to work in difficult conditions and under pressure
  • Good capacity to work in multi-national teams
  • Cultural sensitivity, work/travel in development countries is a great advantage
