Intern. Short-Term Experts for Solid Waste Management

FThe overall goal of the National Solid Waste Management Programme (NSWMP) is that the national olid waste management system contributes significantly to the sustainable protection of the environment and climate, the conservation of resources and the reduction of healt-realted hazards for the population in Egypt. The NSWMP includes work at the national, regional and local levels, including financial and technical cooperaiton support to initially four Egyptian Governorates: Qena and Assiut in Upper Egypt, Kafr El Sheikh and Gharbia in the Delta. Through developing a new national SWM policy & legal framework, dedicated institutions and enhanced professional capacity, and new investments in infrastructure and services, the NSWMP will also set SWM as a key entry point for economic development, employment, integration of the informal sector and social participation in the process of planning and implementing public infrastructure and services. One of these is the opportunigy to create business and employment opportunities through ISWM, ie high resource efficient / high employment generating integrated SWM systems.

Qualifications Required Only the experts meeting the set criteria will be shortlisted and contacted.

• Master or Bachelor degree in Environmental or Natural Sciences or equivalents;
• Post-graduate degree will be considered as an advantage; in the absence of the required degree, a minimum of 10 years of professional experience is required;
• Good command of written and spoken English and German;
• Arabic language skills will be an asset;
• Full computer literacy; 

Professional Experience Required

Searched for are in particular:

- Contracts & Procurement experts
- IT / Document Management Systems Experts
- Communication and Awareness Experts

Who should have:
• At least 10 years of working experience in the field of solid waste management, in particular on administrational, financial /investment and management aspects.
• Expertise in providing consultancy to public institutions on the implementation of conceptual studies, tendering of infrastructure measures and the build-up of an integrated system;
• Profound expertise in institutional development and organizational consulting, human resource development and system analyses;
• At least 5 years experience in donor-funded projects including technical assistance to public institutions in the MENA region, preferably in Egypt and best for KfW;
• Working experience in developing countries on integrated waste management under the viewpoint of climate and energy aspects.
