INTERSOS, in the framework of its activities in Cameroonis selecting candidates for the position of:
JOB TITLE: Protection Officer
DUTY STATION: Maroua, Cameroon
STARTING DATE: 1st of June 2015
DURATION: 8 months
ROLE, TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Protection Officer is in charge of implementation and realization of Protection activities foreseen in the project, under the supervision and in coordination with the Protection Project Manager (PM). Specifically s/he will be responsible:
· Support the PM in the realization of project’s activities in the field;
· Support the PM in maintaining and developing good relations with donor organizations and ensuring adherence to grant management requirements, including timely and accurate reporting and communication;
· Together with the PM, supervise and provide technical input to ensure the quality of Protection Mobile Team, particularly the Identification, Documentation, Tracing and Reunification (IDTR) team (including review of case management processes and plans, psychosocial support, referral systems and community engagement for protection of children and victims of GBV);
· Design and implement training and regular mentoring to build the capacity of INTERSOS staff and partners on Protection issue with particular attention to Child Protection and GBV;
· Ensure child protection principles and activities according to Child Protection Minimum Standards are practically mainstreamed throughout INTERSOS programs and with other sectors/agencies in target areas;
· Actively participate in Protection Working Groups and Child Protection and GBV sub-Working Groups and build strategic relationships with working group members, local authorities and agencies/organizations working in Extreme North;
· Support the PM with the documentation of project methodologies, lessons learned, and gather case studies;
· Perform other related duties as required by the Project Manager.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- University degree in relevant area (e.g. Child Development, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Human Rights);
- At least 2 years professional experience in Protection is required. Experience in best interest determination, CP and/or GBV case management, psychosocial support, counseling and child friendly communication techniques are desirable.
- Experience with Identification, Documentation, Tracing and Reunification (IDTR) with particular focus on supporting/monitoring foster family
- Field experience in a humanitarian setting is required and work experience in the Somali context is desirable;
- Proven experience developing training materials and conducting trainings using participatory methods for different target groups is required. Experience in training of trainers is desirable;
- Strong experience in monitoring and evaluation, and data collection and analysis is required.
- Excellent analytical, report writing and communication skills is required;
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations with staff, beneficiaries and other stakeholders;
- Ability to work in a volatile and difficult security context, including hardship field locations;
- Computer literate (Microsoft office, particularly Access);
- Fluency in written and spoken French and English.
