Senior Economist

Introduction
We need:
• A Senior Economist in our head offices in Swindon.
• £49,838 - £55,376 a year + bonus, pension and benefits on a permanent contract.
This is an exciting and high profile role analysing developments in the economy and Nationwide’s markets in to order to inform and advise key decision makers. The role holder will produce forecasts that will underpin Nationwide’s corporate planning and stress testing activities and present confidently to internal and external stakeholders. The remit is wide-ranging and varied, with important work required to high standards and tight deadlines.
Who we're looking for
Our team works closely with many business areas, therefore we are looking for someone who is able to win trust and build relationships across Nationwide. As well as a flair for economics, you will need to have the ability to convey complex ideas to non-specialists. We also want someone with a keen awareness of and interest in developments in financial services as well as the wider economy.
As a minimum requirement you’ll:
• Good first degree in economics
• A post graduate degree (Masters or higher) in Economics (or with significant economic content)
• Experience working as an economist in the public or private sector
• Excellent written and oral communication skills 
• A track record of delivering to exacting standards.
It would be nice if you also:
• Knowledge of our markets (mortgages, savings, commercial property)
• Experience in econometric modelling (including use of e-views, SPSS or similar)
What you'll be doing
You will be expected to: 
• Produce timely and thoroughly justified forecasts for Nationwide’s core markets.
• Play a key role in producing robust and plausible economic scenarios as the basis for stress testing analysis.
• Effectively communicate rationale for projections by presenting confidently and by drafting well thought out and convincing narratives for inclusion in forecast documents and reports. 
• Maintain, develop and improve our forecast models and market databases identifying and implementing possible improvements and documenting them. 
• Monitor and analyse data releases that give essential insights into developments in the wider economy and the UK household sector. 
• Produce longer term and ad-hoc pieces of economic/market research on topics of strategic relevance to the business. 
• Develop a good understanding of Nationwide’ businesses and strategies to appr eciate sensitivity of results to economic drivers. 
• Develop knowledge-sharing and value-enhancing relationships across the business. 
• Deliver presentations on economic issues to internal and external audiences as appropriate.
