Objective:
Under the direct supervision of the Global Coordinator, Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) Cluster, and the overall supervision of the Head of the Preparedness and Response Division (PRD), the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the cleaning, refinement and analysis of databases and reporting of results to support information management, utilizing Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) information management tools and methodologies. In particular he/she will:
- Support the capturing, storing and sharing of humanitarian knowledge; analyse information received from IOM’s field offices; and generate a number of relevant documents.
- Assist in undertaking research to support and enhance IOM’s DTM Flow Monitoring System and analyse incoming data.
- Contribute to regular reporting on and dissemination of information gathered through the DTM Flow Monitoring System.
- Prepare draft technical reports, statistical analyses, information bulletins and other relevant information related to displacement-affected populations.
- Provide technical support to IOM HQ and field missions in the development, implementation and evaluation of DTM data and other information management activities.
- Develop new or revise current survey and assessment forms, queries and reports as required.
- Assist in the coordination of internal and external DTM capacity-building initiatives.
- Research, analyze and evaluate new applications related to information systems, to new technologies and processes to manage information in response to disasters and/or complex emergencies and make recommendations for their utilization.
- Assist in data entry, database use and troubleshooting.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Desirable qualifications:
University degree in Statistics or related field, or, alternatively, an equivalent combination of related education and professional experience. Excellent knowledge of statistics, survey and assessment methodologies.
Proficiency in using two or more of the following tools: Access, Visual Basic, Java, ASP, SQL or Oracle. Proficiency in one or more statistical analysis software such as: Stata, SAS, SPSS, R. Of particular value is experience in the development, refinement and implementation of population database systems (such as registrations, census or surveys). Familiarity with GIS software is an asset.
Excellent writing and communication skills, efficiency and flexibility. Ability to work under pressure. Attention to detail and quality and capacity to meet deadlines. Strong analytical skills and creative thinking. Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds.
Proficiency in English required and knowledge of French desirable.
