The Institute for International Trade is a highly specialised unit within the University that conducts expert training and policy research into trade issues for clients in intergovernmental organisations, national (including Australia) governments and the private sector. The Institute develops and delivers tailor-made training programs for foreign and domestic government officials and teaches university courses relating to international economics and law. The Institute also manages research projects related to the training and education programs and contributes to the national and international debate on areas of its interest.
The Director, Institute for International Trade is responsible for the overall leadership, management and strategic directions of the Institute for International Trade and for ensuring the deliverables are met by all staff in the Institute. This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for the development and implementation of the Institute’s training programs and academic courses and related research activity.
Salary: An attractive and flexible remuneration package will be determined following negotiation with the successful applicant.
Superannuation: 17% may apply.
Term of position: This 5 year fixed-term contract is available immediately.
Position requirements
The successful candidate for this position will bring exceptional leadership skills, an ability to think strategically and an ease and affinity for working in a multi-cultural environment. To be successful you should have:
- Evident expertise and international recognition in the fields of international trade and investment policy, the institutions of international trade and/or investment and international trade agreements.
- Strong skills in leadership and strategy, and in management, including financial and human resource management.
- Demonstrated capacity in project design, management and implementation and ability to apply those skills to research, teaching, consulting and/or training projects.
- Ability to present the work of the Institute to policy makers, the business sector and the wider community, to speak for the Institute in the media, and to raise the profile of the Institute with those stakeholder groups
- Demonstrated capacity to win work and raise funds for Institute projects in the forms of contracts, grants and consultancies
- Masters Degree or higher with a specialty in international business or economic relations or international law pertaining to fields such as international economic development, international trade law, and/or international finance and investment issues.
