Editor-in-chief: African Security Review

UK-based publisher Taylor & Francis (T&F) is seeking an Editor-in-Chief for African Security Review, a journal that is owned and published by T&F in affiliation with the Institute for Security Studies (ISS).

This is an unsalaried position that requires support from candidates’ home institution, given the intellectual and practical contribution that the Editor-in-Chief will make to the ASR. The editor’s institution should be able to provide support in the form of release time, office space and equipment, as well as telephone and mailing expenses. Candidates should consider the feasibility of serving as editor in relation to the resources available to them, and should address these considerations in their application letter.

About the African Security Review

African Security Review is a multidisciplinary journal that publishes articles on issues across the broad spectrum of human security in Africa.

Submissions are sought from various perspectives (both traditional and innovative), different methodological backgrounds and divergent theoretical approaches in order to broaden cross-disciplinary discourse in the field of human security in Africa. African Security Review publishes feature articles, essays, commentaries, book reviews and notes from practitioners in the field.

Overview of duties

Assist the Managing Editor to screen submissions for peer review, help to select appropriate peer reviewers, make final decisions on manuscripts, help to check final proofs, and plan future (including special) issues.
Communicate with the editorial board, authors, ISS, and Taylor & Francis.
Liaise with relevant parties in the human security community in Africa to encourage quality submissions and promote the journal.
Overview of requirements

Doctoral degree in international politics/relations, security studies, conflict, peacebuilding or related subject; or equivalent experience in the field.
Affiliation to an academic institution, with a strong academic background (including a list of publications).
Excellent communication skills.
Clear vision and commitment to human security in Africa.
Ability to work in a team.
Visibility and respect in the field of human security in Africa.
The contract will be for one year and may be renewed subject to the journal’s requirements and satisfactory performance.
