Area Manager Nigeria

NRC initiated country operations in Nigeria in June 2015, in order to respond to the critical and increasing needs in the country. NRC currently has a full team based in Maiduguri and a coordination office in Abuja. Borno State is host to the largest number of IDPs with the biggest concentration in Maiduguri City. NRC is providing services across various sectors namely; Shelter and Non-Food Items (NFI); Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WASH); Food Security; and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) in order to address identified humanitarian needs. We are now looking for an Area Manager for Maduguri.

Job description

  • Line management for senior project staff and support functions in Maiduguri
  • Compliance with- and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
  • Provide area specific input on the Core Competency (CC) strategies, Country Strategy and Plan of Action
  • Organize grants opening and closure meetings at area level
  • Implementation of projects (including master support budget and coordinating input for donor proposals and reports), in compliance with contractual commitments
  • Ensure optimal use of resources
  • Represent NRC and networking in Maiduguri
  • Ensure that capacity building is provided to all staff in the area
  • Ensure overall security and safety of staff in the area
  • Assess needs, develop emergency response and implement response plans
  • Advance the process of humanitarian access outside of Maiduguri

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior management level position in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Technical expertise in Protection, Shelter, WASH or Food Security will be a distinct advantage
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge on own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal

We offer

  • Commencement: September 2016
  • Duration: 12months
  • Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s general directions and free housing of moderate standard.
  • Duty station: Maiduguri, with 25 % travel to Abuja .This is a non-family posting.Travel outside Maiduguri is dependent on changing security conditions, especially for certain roads in the area. Recreational and social facilities are limited, and accommodation is modest. International staff members are required to live in joint accommodation.
  • Approved health certficate will be requested before contract start
