Half the world is under 30 years old. Young people are most affected by the most persistent problems in the world, yet are frequently overlooked as part of the solution. Our mission is to place young people at the forefront of change and development. Restless Development is the banner carrier for youth-led development, demonstrating from the grassroots to the global policy levels that young people can and must play a lead role in development. For 10 years Restless Development (Sierra Leone) has championed the agency of young people in Sierra Leone to lead change at depth and scale on the issues affecting them most, from peacebuilding to teenage pregnancy to youth business development to ending Ebola through community-led response. We’re looking for our next Director to lead us into a new era of ambition and impact as we launch our new global strategy.
Our Director in Sierra Leone will work with a new and vibrant management team to launch our growing recovery work in Sierra Leone, centred around our four goals. The person will lead the delivery of our global strategy in the region, Restless Development Sierra Leone’s exciting transition to a Hub, and be a central figure in the management of our global agency through the agency-wide leadership from our global Directors.
From the agency’s office in Freetown (and with regular travel to our offices in Bo and Makeni), s/he will lead the direction of 60+ energetic and driven staff members. The Director will join a close network of development professionals in Sierra Leone and will inherit strong networks and partnerships with a range of national civil society partners, bi-lateral and multi-lateral donors and government.
Restless Development hires on potential and seeks an exceptional individual who can demonstrate the leadership behaviours we expect to see in our Directors, and will possess a commitment to our values and mission of young people at the forefront of change and development. As primary representative for the agency in Sierra Leone, s/he will be capable of securing investment and developing and sustaining strategic partnerships, positioning the agency as the go to for young people and youth. The successful candidate will have a sound track record in both youth programming or management within the context of international development and of partnership or consortium working. As a mentor to younger staff members and the Deputy, s/he will be a champion for the development of the Country Programme and its staff members.
Restless Development is an equal opportunities employer and all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. Please submit a complete application form by Midnight UK time on Sunday 4 th September 2016 to: jobs@restlessdevelopment.org. Please note that CVs will not be accepted.
