The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are seeking to fill a consultancy position of Applications Hosting Systems Administrator, based at our Headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Under the general supervision and guidance of the Applications Hosting Team Leader, the consultant will be responsible for the whole range of applications hosted on WFP IT infrastructure, which involves the following key duties:
* Provide application hosting services within the WFP IT Division;
* Contribute to the WFP Beneficiary Information Management platform (SCOPE) hosting services in collaboration with the SCOPE Product Development team in Bangkok;
* Work towards the implementation of the new shared web hosting solutions;
* Provide technical support to the Application Developers;
* Liaise with the service providers to ensure maximum availability of web services, uptime, efficiency and user satisfaction;
* Proactively monitor Application Hosting environments, both dedicated and shared;
* Support the activities aimed at consolidating and harmonizing the IT resources (reduction of IT total cost of ownership);
* Maintains application support processes, and checks that all requests for support are dealt with according to agreed procedures;
* Uses application and database management software and tools to investigate issues, collect performance statistics and create reports;
* Other duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience Required
Education:
* University degree in the field of Computer Science/Engineering or Information Systems or equivalent work experience.

Experience:
* At least 5 years practical hands-on IT experience in a 24x7 mission critical environment supporting production applications and/or administration of enterprise IT services, preferably in large international organizations.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:
* Sound skills in Linux Operating System;
* Extensive experience in Shell, Python, Ansible scripting;
* Good knowledge of database technologies among different DB platforms (Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, MS SQL);
* Extensive knowledge of virtualization engines (VMWare, Docker, KVM);
* Extensive knowledge of Web and Application Servers (Apache, Nginx, Tomcat, MS IIS);
* Good knowledge and understanding of Linux security (IPTables, Firewalld);
* Knowledge of LAN and WAN technologies and principles;
* Good Knowledge of the Python/Django/WSGI/NGINX stack;
* Experience across best-practice Methodologies such as ITIL;

* Fluency in oral and written English with an intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.
