Purpose of the Position:
Under the supervision of the Logistics Manager and working closely with colleagues in SCSC and the Supply Division, the incumbent will support the development of country-level in-country logistics management strategies with direct impact on programme results.
The incumbent will use his/her technical knowledge and specialized experience to develop tools, technologies, and structured approaches to analyse and solve in-country logistics problems relevant to UNICEF programmes.
The incumbent will also contribute to the development of policy, the Supply Manual, and training materials to facilitate learning. He/she will also contribute to facilitate exchanges of best practices for internal and external usage.
Summary of key functions/accountabilities:
- Provide technical and business process support on VISION warehouse module.
- Provide support to country offices through regular monitoring and analysis of UNICEF controlled inventory held in country and regional offices warehouses.
- Act as focal point for Supply Manual chapters related to in-country logistics and warehouse management.
- Coordinate and monitor the year-end inventory count of UNICEF country offices in collaboration with DFAM.
- Participate in planning, organizing and conducting in-country logistics training programmes and knowledge sharing events for UNICEF country offices, governments and other partners.
- Contribute to documentation and/or publication of empirical case studies, best practices, and lessons learned about in-country logistics management.
- Contribute to the maintenance of a roster of logistics specialists among the UNICEF Supply Community and relevant external partners.
- Participate in field missions for specific technical assistance when required.
- Any other duties or assignments as requested by the supervisor.
Impact of Results
VISION processes for managing UNICEF controlled in-country warehouse inventory and logistics are developed, tested, and made available for usage.
The impact of his/her activities and decisions will contribute to the efficiency and efficacy of in-country logistics managed by UNICEF country offices, and ultimately influence the achievement of programme results.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate:
Master's degree, preferably in the area of Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, Engineering, or related field, is required.
Minimum five (5) years of relevant and progressively responsible work experience in a professional capacity in warehouse, logistics and supply chain management in the public or private sector, is required.
Work experience in international setting and/or development cooperation, including from humanitarian emergency responses is desirable.
Work experience in applying warehouse and inventory management systems/software and supply tracking tools (e.g. barcoding, GPS) is also an advantage.
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second UN language (i.e. Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is considered an asset.
