Social and Behavior Change Specialist, Liberia
We are currently seeking a Social and Behavior Change Specialist for the anticipated USAID Office of Food for Peace funded Liberia Development Assistance (DFAP) Program. This multi-year, non-emergency program is integrated with USAID strategies to address the underlying causes of chronic food insecurity. The program’s ultimate goal is to reduce food insecurity among vulnerable households. The program focuses on strengthening livelihoods and improving nutrition among children under five, incorporating disaster risk reduction and response mechanisms and conflict sensitive approaches. The Social and Behavior Change Specialist will be responsible for:
Responsibilities
  • Work with the ACDI/VOCA Headquarters Social and Behavior Change Specialist to develop a social and behavior change strategy that will support project objectives, especially related to agriculture, gender issues, value chains/market systems, and nutrition.
  • Conduct formative research to inform the social and behavior change communication strategy, including but not limited to barrier analysis, market segmentation, identification of existing messaging materials, identifying priority and influencing groups, etc.
  • Contribute in gender analysis
  • Contribute in writing DFAP monthly, quarterly and annual technical reports
  • Provide guidance and support for project staff on how to implement social behavior change communication strategies
  • Lead and train project team on how to conduct barrier analyses as a method for identifying behavior change-related messaging for the project.
  • Work with the ACDI/VOCA Headquarters Social and Behavior Change Specialist and the project M&E team to put in place effective monitoring and evaluation indicators to evaluate the effectiveness SBCC strategies in behavior change.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, international development, behavioral economics, agronomy, sociology or other related fields required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of four years’ experience, including overseas work, in international development or related field required preferably in the field of gender and social change.
  • Demonstrated experience and technical knowledge of social and behavior change communication theory and techniques. Candidates must have demonstrated experience designing and implementing social and behavior change communications strategies. A candidates with experience conducting barrier analyses is strongly preferred.
  • Technical knowledge of gender and development, particularly related to food security, agricultural value chains/market systems, and nutrition-integrated agriculture.
  • Experience with research methods and conducting field based assessments preferred.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Excellent writing skills in English for writing reports and papers.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills and expertise with the ability to work independently.
