About

The Rwanda Zambia HIV Research Group (RZHRG) has been a global leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS for more than 25 years, supporting prevention programs and research at its sites in Ndola and Lusaka, Zambia (ZEHRP) and in Kigali, Rwanda (Project San Francisco). RZHRG is committed to supporting Couples Voluntary Counseling and Testing (CVCT) as an effective and economical way to decrease HIV/AIDS transmission throughout southern Africa. Operating from Emory University, RZHRG programs include couples family planning and counseling with the provision of long acting reversible contraceptives, research among key populations, data management and analysis, molecular work in the laboratories, and financial and administrative management. Much of the work RZHRG conducts relies on collaboration with local and international organizations.

Position Overview

The HIV Research Coordinator fills the role of a mid-level manager in the departments of couples voluntary counseling and testing (CVCT), data, medical, and administration (sub-areas of financial administration, project management, and human resource management). Scopes of work within each department are determined by service and research directives established by funding agencies. The HIV Research Coordinator will work closely with their teams to ensure that project deliverables are met. In addition, they serve as an important liaison between the Principal Investigator and staff at Emory University and the field sites.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the training of service providers, recruitment of clients, and rollout of research activities
  • Oversee data collection, management, and program reporting
  • Oversee financial expenditures and reporting
  • Manage personnel and human resources responsibilities

Desired Skills and Experience

Items indicated with an asterisk (*) are required
 
  • Bachelor’s degree*
    • Preferred: Master’s degree in public health, business administration, or related field
  • Previous work experience with financial and project management, or data management/analysis skills is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Access, with aptitude and ability to learn new software
  • Good written and communication skills
  • Good time management and organization skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to manage a multi-faceted project and keep numerous channels of communication going at once
  • Ability to work with a multicultural workforce
  • At least one year of experience with a Science Analysis System (SAS)
  • Previous international experience a plus
  • Proficiency in French a plus

Fellowship Logistics

During the fellowship year, all fellows are provided with:
  • A living stipend of $650/month
  • Housing and utilities
  • Health insurance
  • A professional development grant of $600
  • An award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year
  • Travel costs covered to and from placement site, training and retreats
*Note: The living stipend and the completion award may be paid out in USD or local currency, as determined by the placement organization.
Living and Working in Rwanda: Fellows are provided with housing and utilities during the fellowship year. Housing arrangements vary based on the placement organization and location within the country and are subject to change. All housing will meet GHC safety standards. Fellows at RZHRG are provided with a room in the organization’s house. The fellow will have their own bedroom; however, common areas such as the living room, bathroom, kitchen, study, or outdoor space are shared with other program staff. It is basic but comfortable, situated in Kigali, an urban center and capital of Rwanda.
