Duration of contract: 8 months
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Key activities
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Chief of Media and External Relations and working in close collaboration with the Chiefs of Programme Sections, the consultant will undertake the following tasks but not limited to:
• Create, review and edit – in close collaboration with all sectors - multi-purpose/specific products (including thematic content package on ECO priority briefing notes, key messages, speeches and other briefing packs for a large range of stakeholders (“traditional and non- traditional” donors media, National Committees, NGOs)
• Support global and country level partnership and fund-raising activities by effective advocacy and communication activities.
• Produce multimedia materials, together with emergency coordination unit and programme section, to show the drought situation and the affected population and the work of UNICEF.
• Provide support to the activities of collaboration with international media such as facilitating project site visits, photo coverage and TV footage and utilizing both web-based and traditional media as appropriate.
• Together with Donor Relations Unit, review the existing ECO human interest stories produced and identify the gaps and propose human interest stories that need to be developed to supplement already existing materials.
• Ensure communication effectiveness, efficiency and delivery as well as a rigorous and transparent approach to planning, monitoring and evaluation
• Identify opportunities to strengthen the capacity of partners through appropriate advocacy and communication training and provide support to upcoming trainings
• Manage visibility requirement from donors and partners
• Support HQ and RO communication and advocacy initiatives locally
Deliverables
  • High quality briefs and speeches and key messages produced
  • Minimum of three AV packs produced
  • High quality emergency communication materials produced
  • HIS for donor reports as well as for social media outlet produced and edited
  • Timely emergency communication materials produced
  • Successful partner, donor and Natcom visits conducted
  • Donor and partner visibility requests met
Qualifications or Specialized Knowledge/Experience Required:
• Master’s degree in communication, public health, social science or related field
• Five years progressively responsible professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media or interactive digital media, of which two years should be in developing countries
• Technical competence in producing content for various media formats – print, audio, video, web etc.
• Proven fluency in English, written and spoken is a fundament requirement. Knowledge of another UN working language and or knowledge of one of the local languages is an asset.
• Flexible, proactive, takes initiative, and works well under time pressure and able to work independently and effectively in a team.
