GENERAL FUNCTIONS
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Air Terminal Officer, the Air Operations assistant will be:
§ Responsible for Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services at designated Airports in Somalia.
§ Planning, organizing and establishing Airfield fire protection activities required to ensure an efficient fire department (aircraft crash fire and rescue service and structural).
§ Publishing, coordinating and scheduling air transportation in accordance with the Air Operations Manual, SOP and Local Area Procedures.
§ Providing support in the management of the Air Operations Unit assets.
§ Responsible for Air Terminal activities.
§ Evaluating day-to-day airfield operations to ensure safe, efficient and effective use of airfield operations/services.
§ Maintaining situational awareness of airfield activities.
§ Developing sound and safe recommendations.
§ Inspecting and/or checking the airfield for flying safety hazards to include compliance with airfield criteria, aircraft foreign object damage and bird aircraft strike hazards.
§ Responding to aircraft emergencies, accidents and incidents on the airfield.
§ Providing specialist air tasking advice as required.
§ Correcting Flight Safety deficiencies.
§ Complying with the Aviation Safety Program.
§ Performing other duties as assigned.
§ Preparing, establishing and implementing operational schedules and procedures for the fire service and other related functions.
§ Reviewing operational procedures in order to provide an efficient and high standard service including the enforcement of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Technical or vocational certificate in Air Transportation, Safety Management, Air Traffic Control, Flight Dispatch or graduation from equivalent military establishment or training is required.
Work Experience
At least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in Aviation including at least 2 years in an occupation directly related to air transportation operations.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English or French is required.
Knowledge of a second UN language is an advantage and sometimes a requirement. Fluency in the local language may be essential.
