Project Manager – Fisheries project
Location:50% Somaliland 50% Punt land
DURATION: 12 months with possibility of an extension
The Role
The Project manager will have overall responsibility of management support and delivery of an EC funded project on Support to Artisanal Fisheries and Coastal Management in Somaliland and Puntland. Oxfam anticipates that its portfolio of fishery programs will grow in the near future. The Project Manager will actively participate and take the lead in management of the current fisheries portfolio.
The person
The project will strengthen the capacity of the public and private sector institutions involved in fish production and marketing, through capacity building and training. It will contribute to building a more robust fisheries sector in Somalia. The government will be supported in building an overall enabling environment for small scale artisanal fishermen to maximize production and revenues. At the regional level, the project will help increase the contribution fisheries industry makes towards the regions’ GNP. Oxfam is seeking a highly experienced Project Manager to manage this project. The Manager will support capacity development and management of Oxfam’s local partners, technical experts to be based in the ministries and government counterparts to administer the project activities and deliver the planned outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have a minimum of 5 years of managing development programmes. Master’s qualification in related area (livelihoods, economics, development studies, law etc). Good knowledge of development and humanitarian work within an international organization. Experience in the fisheries sector or Institutional capacity-building of Government institutions is highly desirable. Knowledge and experience of working in Puntland and Somaliland is also highly desirable. Ability and willingness to travel in insecure environments in short notice. Proven experience in leading a team of staff to deliver a development programme. Experience in working with donors and fundraising.commitment to equal opportunity with experience in integrating gender and diversity issues into programmes. Excellent written and spoken English is essential. Knowledge of Somali language is desirable.
