The University of Oxford is seeking a dynamic leader to become Director of the Oxford Martin School at the beginning of September 2016. The Director will succeed Professor Ian Goldin to lead the School into its next decade. Major areas of focus include building the profile and impact of the School, working with the academic community and other partners to develop high quality programmes, and ensuring the sustainability of the School’s research programmes.
The Oxford Martin School is a world-leading centre of pioneering research that addresses global challenges. The School invests in research that brings together leading academics from diverse intellectual backgrounds, cutting across disciplines to address complex, global issues, which cannot be addressed by any one academic field alone. It supports research that does not fit within conventional funding channels and aims to improve the well being of this and future generations.
The successful candidate will be a proven leader with exceptional drive, and an ability to design and deliver a strategic vision. S/he will have the personal credibility, communication and people skills to lead a highly diverse academic community. An interdisciplinary mindset and a broad understanding of key 21st century challenges, with an in-depth understanding of at least one research area of the School, is essential. An excellent global network, and a track record of influencing at the highest levels and amongst complex networks of stakeholders will be required.
Candidates will share the Oxford Martin School’s vision and will be motivated by what it is trying to achieve. They will have an understanding of the School’s position within the UK and internationally.
